First, you pet the dog!
This is "Joe". He's the studio dog. I'll have treats for you to feed him.
My sessions are very relaxed. We can chat a little about what you might have in mind if you like. Otherwise we start by setting lights and taking a few test shots. Time goes fast when we are shooting. I can give you as much or as little guidance as you want. If you want music I have speakers you can connect your phone to. I'll also have some snacks and something to drink.
You can do several wardrobe changes. Throughout the shoot I will pause to show you previews of what we've taken so far so we can see if we are getting what you need.
Towards the end of the session, once we know we have what you need, if you are up for it, It's time to play a little bit with lighting. Possibly some colored gels or some very dramatic top lighting. Often we get some of our best results during this time.

My approach
01.
Make you say "wow".
I want to capture at least a few images that make you say "wow!". That is my goal for each portrait session. I want to please you beyond your expectations. I know this sounds like a sales tactic but it's not. This really is my goal because if you say "wow" it makes my day!
02.
I want my work to be different.
Yes, the name of my site is Different Portraits and that is intentional, not a marketing trick. I want my images to look different from what you can get at other places. That is my goal for each session. The best way to describe it would me like this. Imagine you are having a great time out with friends or alone and someone shoots a candid photo of you that you love; it's your favorite picture of you. Unfortunately it was shot in poor lighting, framed badly and it's low resolution. I want to shoot that photo and capture that expression but with the experience of a professional photographer: excellent lighting, framed perfectly, hi-res, well exposed photo.
Can I bring a friend?
Sure, no problem. I will even take a few photos of you with your friend if you like.
What should I wear?
We will talk about this before you come to the session. It all depends on your needs.
How many pictures will I receive?
You will see all of the images we have taken. There are different packages for hi-res image purchase.
Do you travel to location shoots?
Yes, I do. But location shoots will have to be outdoors mostly because I don't travel with studio lighting. That being said, a well lit interior space is also possible.
Do you do Weddings?
Very rarely. The only time I shoot weddings if if the couple has a really interesting and different idea about what they want captured. I shoot weddings as a journalist would. I capture what is interesting and unique to the event but I don't shoot traditional wedding photos.
Want a wedding portrait of you both sitting on a tractor wearing overalls, a top hat and a wedding veil, surrounded by dogs? I'm your man.
Holding hands/flowers on a beach at sunset? Nothing wrong with that but it's not my style.
What makes you different from the other photographers?
I don't copy what is popular or common just to sell you an image. I want to make something unique. I care so much about doing this that I will not charge you anything if you don't like or want any of the images we shot.
That being said, if you need a social media portrait it will look pretty much like a typical portrait. The one big difference is the price. My pricing is very reasonable. Also I offer 2 for 1 on social media portraits. Bring a friend at the same time and it's buy one get one free!
